<sasayma castle seki>
Constructed in 1609 by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu as one of the strongholds for the siege of Osaka Castle.
In addition to the moat and stone walls preserved as they were in the past, the Great Study Hall, restored to its former glory, is a must-see.
The partition paintings, repurposed from Kano school folding screen paintings in the upper room, are also splendid.
The Wakachika Investigation Team did that too, didn’t they?
When you think of Tanba Sasayama, it’s a gourmet town, isn’t it? Apparently, Kameoka and Sasayama have their own unique fog. Thanks to that, the soil seems to be in good shape.
The lotus flowers in the southern moat of Sasayama Castle once bloomed profusely across the entire surface, but they suddenly vanished around 2005.
Following a proposal from students at Sasayama Elementary School located within the castle ruins, a restoration project has been launched to eradicate the red-eared sliders responsible for the site’s decline.
While red-eared sliders haven’t completely disappeared from Minamihori, lotus flowers bloomed there in 2019 for the first time in about 15 years.
Next to Sasayama Castle is Sasayama Elementary School, and I was amazed—it was a moment when I truly felt the future of this country is bright.
The ruins of Sasayama Castle have become a place of relaxation for the local community.
