山口県の萩からだと、松江城まで、結構距離があるので、三瓶山あたりで一泊することに。さひめのさんで、一泊させてもらいました。
さひめのさんに行く前に、面白い、かまぼこ屋さんがあったので、パシャリ。
忠小兵衛蒲鉾本店（ちゅうこべえかまぼこほんてん）。なんと創業、安政時代から。あの安政の大獄の時代からある蒲鉾屋さん。すごいですよね。企業は、もって千年って言われてますから、どこまで続くのか？
けど、鹿島神宮とかは、紀元前からありますから。ほんと企業と神宮の違いは、なんなんですかね？

From Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture, it’s quite a distance to Matsue Castle, so we decided to stay overnight around Mt. Sanbe. We stayed at Sahime-san.
Before heading to Sahime-san, we spotted an interesting kamaboko shop and snapped a photo.
Chūko-bē Kamaboko Honten. Founded way back in the Ansei era. A kamaboko shop that’s been around since the time of the Ansei Purge. That’s amazing, right? They say companies last a thousand years, so how long will this one go?
But places like Kashima Shrine have been around since before the Common Era. What exactly is the difference between a company and a shrine, I wonder?

さひめのさんは、完全に、三瓶山の観光客のための旅館って感じです。
大阪からだと、４時間半くらいで来れれるのかな？大阪ナンバーの車も多かったですよ。
特に、大山隠岐国立公園は、行ってみるとビックリすると思います。ちゃんと駐車場も整備されてて、地域の人にとっての憩いの場になってます。

Sahime-san feels like a ryokan made entirely for tourists visiting Mt. Sanbe.
From Osaka, it takes about four and a half hours to get here, I think? There were a lot of cars with Osaka license plates too.
Especially, I think you’ll be surprised when you visit Daisen-Oki National Park. The parking lots are well-maintained, and it’s become a place of relaxation for the local community.

眼病をはじめとした健康にご利益があるとして有名。心静かに坐禅、書写体験ができる（要予約）。境内で無農薬栽培をしているお茶が美味。

隣の県が、鳥取なので、水木しげる先生の目玉おやじが。一畑薬師は、おめめの神様なので。可愛かったですよ。

Famous for its health benefits, particularly for eye ailments. Visitors can experience quiet meditation and calligraphy practice (reservation required). The organic tea cultivated within the temple grounds is delicious.

Since the neighboring prefecture is Tottori, it’s home to Mr. Shigeru Mizuki’s Eyeball Father. Ibaraki Yakushi is the god of eyes, so it was adorable.

国宝・松江城を囲む堀川を船頭さんの案内で巡るクルーズ。松江城を中心に３か所ある乗船場は終日乗降自由なので、観光スポットを巡る際に利用するのもおすすめ。

＜小泉八雲ってどんな人？＞
アイルランド出身の文学者で、英語教師として松江に就任し、約１年３か月暮らした。本名はラフカディオハーン（愛称ヘレンさん）で、日本名が小泉八雲。妻・小泉セツから聞いたこの地この地の伝説や怪談話をもとにした作品など、多くの著作を世界に発信した。

今回は、時間の都合上、松江城と出雲大社は、パス。堀川めぐりと、小泉八雲記念館の近くの、手打ち神代そばさんへ。堀川めぐり面白かったです。船頭さんの案内が面白く、ハラハラドキドキ体験ができます。松江城の城下町の、雰囲気味わえますよ。

島根県は、2026年現在、朝ドラで「ばけばけ」やってるので、旬の場所ですね。僕が行った時は、まだ「ばけばけ」やってなくて・・・。吉沢亮（よしざわりょう）さん、やっぱりかっこいいですね。豪華メンバーの布陣で臨んでます。

「catch me if you can」のディカプリオさんと、「ばけばけ、国宝」の吉沢亮さんの２人は誰もが納得、生粋のイケメンですよね。

神代そばさんで、おいしい出雲そばいただいて、和菓子の若草購入し、蒜山高原SAで、自然のすごさを体験しつつ、休憩してから、帰宅。

A cruise along the moat surrounding the National Treasure Matsue Castle, guided by a boatman. With three boarding points centered around Matsue Castle offering free boarding and disembarking throughout the day, it’s also recommended for touring sightseeing spots.

＜Who was Lafcadio Hearn?＞
An Irish-born writer who took up a post as an English teacher in Matsue, where he lived for about a year and three months. His real name was Lafcadio Hearn (nicknamed Helen-san), and his Japanese name was Koizumi Yakumo. He shared many works with the world, including stories based on local legends and ghost tales he heard from his wife, Setsu Koizumi.

This time, due to time constraints, we skipped Matsue Castle and Izumo Grand Shrine. Instead, we took the Horikawa Boat Tour and visited Teuchi Jindai Soba near the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum. The Horikawa Boat Tour was fun. The boatman’s commentary was entertaining, making for a thrilling experience. You can really soak up the atmosphere of Matsue Castle’s castle town.

Shimane Prefecture is currently in the spotlight thanks to the morning drama “Bake Bake” airing in 2026. When I visited, it hadn’t started yet… Ryo Yoshizawa is just so cool, isn’t he? They’ve assembled a truly stellar cast.

Leonaldo DiCaprio in “Catch Me If You Can” and Ryo Yoshizawa in “Bake Bake, kokuhou” – everyone agrees they’re both pure, natural heartthrobs, right?

We had delicious Izumo soba at shindai Soba, bought some Wakakusa Japanese sweets, experienced the power of nature at Hiruzen Kogen SA, took a break, and then headed home.
