<Special Place of Scenic Beauty: Ritsurin Garden>
A scenic spot Kagawa Prefecture is proud of. Located in the heart of Takamatsu, this picturesque garden is Shikoku’s only site designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Stroll through its grounds and admire the seasonal beauty born of its sophisticated landscaping techniques.
<Basic Information on Ritsurin Garden>
“Who created this garden, and when?”
Its origins lie in the late 16th century, when the powerful Satō clan began its construction. Development continued for over a century thereafter, culminating in its completion in 1745 (the second year of the Enkyō era) under the fifth lord of the Sanuki Takamatsu domain, Matsudaira Yoritaka.
“What makes it so remarkable?”
Spanning approximately 75 hectares at the foot of Mount Shūzan, this strolling daimyō garden possesses a scale unrivalled in Japan. Boasting numerous points of interest showcasing intricate design, it was designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty in 1953.
“How long does it take to see everything?”
The garden is broadly divided into the South Garden and North Garden, and seeing just one section takes about an hour. Allowing around two hours is advisable, as you’ll also want to enjoy the garden teahouse and boating on the lake.
ritsurin Park is quite popular, isn’t it? Particularly with foreign tourists. Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka are packed with foreign visitors and terribly crowded, so Kagawa Prefecture is surprisingly a hidden gem. The cherry blossoms are truly beautiful there.
Do indiscriminate killings tend to target crowded places? Stations? Shopping malls? Universities? Is it safer to avoid areas with large crowds? I believe there was some sort of incident at a university in America too.
