＜直島（”島アート”が始まった現代アートの聖地）＞
約３０年前に直島で「ベネッセアートサイト直島」のアート活動が始まり、今も中心的な存在。初心者でも親しみやすい有名な作品が多いので、まずは直島から巡ろう。

＜直島パヴィリオン（フォトジェニックな「２８番目の島」）＞
２７の島をもつ直島町に「２８番目の島」として誕生した作品。三角形のステンレス製メッシュ約２５０枚で構成され、中にも入れるので、ぜひ中からの景色も楽しんで。ライトアップされる夜もおすすめ。

＜赤かぼちゃ（直島のキュートなシンボル）＞
宮浦港でひと際目立つ、真っ赤なかぼちゃ。草間作品の象徴である水玉で彩られた作品で、草間は「太陽の『赤い光』を宇宙の果てまで探してきて、それは直島の海の中で赤カボチャに変身してしまった」と詩で語る。

＜直島銭湯『Iラブ湯（あいらぶゆ）』＞
実際に入浴できるアート作品。北海道の秘宝館にあったゾウや松の植栽、船パーツ、インドネシア製タイル、廃材などを使い、浴槽や蛇口、トイレの陶器（とうき）など隅々までコラージュを施す。

＜海の駅「なおしま」＞
宮浦港に隣接したフェリーターミナルで、乗船券売り場や観光案内所、カフェ、みやげ店を備える。特にみやげが充実し、なかでも直島産の塩を使ったものが多い。スタイリッシュな建物も見ものだ。

直島着いたら、すぐ目に入る、草間さんの赤カボチャ、みなさん記念撮影してましたよ。
香川県とやっぱり言えば、讃岐うどん。直島の隣は、小豆島（しょうどしま）なので、オリーブオイルがかかってってるうどんいただきました。
安藤忠雄さんの地中美術館も行きたかったのですが、時間の都合上パス。

＜Naoshima (The Sacred Site of Contemporary Art Where “Island Art” Began)＞
Art activities at Benesse Art Site Naoshima began on Naoshima about 30 years ago and remain central to the island’s identity today. With many famous works accessible even to beginners, start your tour here.

＜Naoshima Pavilion (The Photogenic “28th Island”)＞
This work was born as the “28th island” in Naoshima Town, which has 27 islands. Composed of approximately 250 triangular stainless steel mesh panels, you can also enter inside, so be sure to enjoy the view from within. The illuminated nighttime view is also recommended.

＜Red Pumpkin (Naoshima’s Cute Symbol)＞
At Miyaura Port, a bright red pumpkin stands out. Decorated with polka dots—a symbol of Kusama’s work—Kusama describes it in her poetry: “I searched for the ‘red light’ of the sun to the farthest reaches of the universe, and it transformed into a red pumpkin in the sea of Naoshima.”

＜Naoshima Public Bathhouse “I Love Yu”＞
An art installation you can actually bathe in. Using materials like elephant and pine tree plantings from Hokkaido’s Secret Treasure Museum, ship parts, Indonesian tiles, and scrap wood, every corner—from the bathtub and faucet to the toilet ceramics—is meticulously collaged.

＜Sea Station “Naoshima”＞
Adjacent to Miyaura Port, the ferry terminal features a ticket counter, tourist information center, café, and souvenir shop. The souvenir selection is particularly extensive, with many items made using salt produced on Naoshima. The stylish building itself is also worth seeing.

From Uno Port in Okayama Prefecture, it’s a 10-15 minute ferry ride. Using the stylish Marine Station as a base, I rode a moped around Naoshima.
Upon arriving at Naoshima, the first thing you see is Kusa’s red pumpkin. Everyone was taking commemorative photos.
When you think of Kagawa Prefecture, Sanuki udon comes to mind. Since Shodoshima is right next to Naoshima, I had udon topped with olive oil.
I really wanted to visit Tadao Ando’s Chichu Art Museum, but I had to skip it due to time constraints.
